Area nursing professionals have a new patient care simulator to practice and perfect their skills. Grinnell Regional Medical Center has a manikin that will allow nurses to amplify real-patient experiences through guided experiences.
GRMC purchased the manikin with partial funding from a Grinnell College Mini-Grant. The manikin is a realistic simulator that offers skills practice in a comprehensive selection of important patient-care skills, including venipuncture, injections, blood pressure monitoring, and listening of heart and lung sounds. The simulator allows for training in bandaging and wound dressing, bed baths, intramuscular injection, ostomy care, patient positioning, patient transfer techniques, recognition of lung sounds, and more.
GRMC supports the education of future healthcare providers and current healthcare professionals. In an effort to promote the idea of safe, experienced care, the patient care simulator will be made available as an educational resource within the Grinnell community and GRMC service area.
