A while back, I talked about how my son watches cartoons I have DVR’d for him and asks to fast forward through the commercials. At the time I was all “No son of mine is gonna be pampered by technology…he will sit through those commercials like I did to learn some patience.”
That backfired. Turns out most of the commercials during cartoons are for toys. All of which my son wants. I stopped skipping the breaks for him, and all was well until I started hearing “Daddy, I want one of those!” thrice an episode. The toys don’t even have to be anything my son is typically into. He wants anything and everything. So while he might be patient enough to sit through a commercial break, he is now as greedy as Gordon Gekko. Parenting has humbled me yet again.
