Students do well

Marshalltown Community College (MCC) students Lisa Butler and Cynthia Coury Castellanos and Iowa Valley Grinnell (IVG) student Jennifer McAlexander were honored as members of Phi Theta Kappa’s 2019 All-Iowa Academic Team at a banquet in Des Moines on March 4. The top Iowa community college students are nominated each year by the Phi Theta Kappa chapter at each campus.

MCC:

Lisa Butler of Marshalltown is studying Human Services at MCC; her plan after graduation is to transfer to Buena Vista University. She has received the Outstanding Student Scholarship award and works as a peer tutor and leader for her fellow students.

Cynthia Coury Castellanos of Marshalltown is studying Nursing at MCC and is undecided in her plans after graduation.

IVG:

Jennifer McAlexander of Grinnell is pursuing a Liberal Arts degree at Iowa Valley Grinnell. She is undecided on her plans after graduation. McAlexander is the Phi Theta Kappa Chapter President.

The honorees were accompanied to the recognition banquet by Dr. Robin Lilienthal, MCC Provost; Dr. Patrick Kennedy, MCC Dean of Academic Affairs; MaryAnne Nickle, Dean of Iowa Valley Grinnell; Barbara Hall, IVG PTK Advisor; Angie Redmond, MCC Dean of Enrollment & Student Life; Pele Waddilove, MCC PTK Advisors; Dr. Chris Duree, IVCCD Chancellor; and IVCCD Board member Deb Jones.
