On Thursday, March 14th at 6:30 pm, Relish will host a meet the farmer event with Jordan Scheibel from Middle Way Farm, featuring music from local fiddler Tammy McGavock. Learn about the farm and their innovative Community Supported Agriculture program (CSA), in which members pay for a farm share to access fresh, seasonal, chemical-free produce from June through October. Middle Way Farm offers weekly and every other week boxes of produce, as well as a fully customizable share that allows members to choose when they order and what they get in their box each week. The farm is currently seeking members for the 2019 season, which begins in early June. There will be a free appetizer featuring Middle Way Farm spinach grown under protection over the winter, as well as dinner, drinks, and desserts available for purchase. Anyone signing up for a farm share that night will receive a special $20 discount on their share or will receive a coupon code for a $20 discount should they choose to sign up for a sharelater.
Relish is located at 834 Park Street, on the corner of Park St. and 4th Ave. The restaurant features locally produced, high quality meat and dairy, seasonal produce, and seafood prepared in a variety of fresh, flavorful dishes on a constantly evolving menu. Chef Kamal is known for seeking out the best local ingredients from area growers and producers and has been since well before the local food movement became mainstream. Middle Way Farm has supplied produce seasonally to Relish since 2013.
Middle Way Farm is a market garden located just north of Grinnell on the Lacina family farm. Started in November 2012 by Jordan Scheibel, the farm offers chemical-free (transitioning to certified organic in 2019) vegetables, fruits, fresh herbs, flowers, and plant starts for sale seasonally from May through November. The farm markets directly to customers through Community Supported Agriculture shares in Grinnell and Newton, the Thursday Grinnell farmers market May through October, Grinnell Farm to Table, McNally’s Foods, the Iowa Food Coop in the Des Moines area, and Lemon Tree Teahouse and Restaurant in Newton.
