3/04/10 SPACE TALK

Tonight’s Space Talk at the library will focus on Iowa’s role in space research.

Professor Don Gurnett of the University of Iowa will be the speaker. He has been involved in space research at the U of I for nearly 50 years. He began his career there working for James Van Allen shortly after the launch of Explorer 1, the first U.S. satellite. He specializes in the study of space plasma physics, and has participated in over 25 spacecraft projects. His experience and memories of the last 50 years provide a fascinating overview of this critical period of space research.

The Space Talk speaker series is part of the “Visions of the Universe: Four Centuries of Discovery” astronomy exhibit on display at the library through March 26th. They are every Thursday evening at 7pm in the library community room.
