UPWARDS OF TWO-THOUSAND PEOPLE VISITED THE NEW GRINNELL PUBLIC SAFETY BUILDING LAST FRIDAY.
 
THAT’S ACCORDING TO GRINNELL POLICE CHIEF JODY MATHERLY, WHO SAYS HE AND HIS STAFF ESTIMATE AT LEAST 15-HUNDRED CAME THROUGH THE DOORS FOR A BEHIND-THE-SCENES LOOK AT THE BUILDING HOUSING THE POLICE ANDFIRE DEPARTMENTS. THE GOAL WAS TO EQUAL OR SURPASS THE ONE-THOUSAND PEOPLE WHO ATTENDED THE OPEN HOUSE IN 1959 FOR THE OLD PUBLIC SAFETY BUILDING. GRINNELL MAYOR GORDON CANFIELD WAS IN ATTENDANCE, AND SAYS VISITORS CAME FROM ALL OVER.
THE OPEN HOUSE WAS PERHAPS THE ONLY OPPORTUNITY RESIDENTS WILL HAVE TO SEE PARTS OF THE BUILDING NOT NORMALLY OPEN TO THE PUBLIC…INCLUDING THE APPARATUS BAY AND THE FIRE TRUCKS, THE HOSE TOWER, THE BUNK ROOMS, THE HOLDING CELLS AND THE SALLY PORT
 
MEANWHILE, THERE WILL BE AN OPEN HOUSE AT THE COUNTY PUBLIC SAFETY BUILDING IN MONTEZUMA FRIDAY, MARCH 12TH FROM FOUR TILL EIGHT.
