9/01/10 CAMPGROUNDS, INCLUDING ROCK CREEK, FILLING FOR LABOR DAY WEEKEND

Iowa campgrounds are filling up fast for the last major camping weekend of the summer.

Department of Natural Resources officials report nearly every reservable campsite with electricity in an Iowastate park has been claimed. All such campsites at nearby Rock Creek Lake State Park have been reserved. As of seven o’clock this morning, 28 non-electrical reservable sites remained at Rock Creek.

Campers interested in staying in a state park for the weekend and who do not already have a site should contact the park before heading out to see if any sites are available.

D-N-R officials point out that good camping opportunities will continue into the fall... when the crowds are lighter, bugs are fewer, weather is cooler and the leaves begin to show colors.
