If you are a registered voter, Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate says you should find an absentee ballot request form in your mailbox this week. Pate mailed them due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Pate used his emergency powers as Secretary of State to do the mass mailing as a way to encourage non-polling site voting for the up-coming Primary Election.
The early voting period for the June 2nd Primary began this past Thursday April 23rd. Pate and County Auditors hope most voters will avoid casting a ballot in person election day to avoid spreading or exposing themselves, other voters, and poll workers to the coronavirus.
Next Monday May 4th is when early in-person absentee voting is to begin at County Auditor Offices. To vote in a Primary, you must be a registered Democrat or Republican. No party and independent voters may change their registration in order to participate and cast a ballot in the Primary.
