Monarch Madness
Calling all monarch butterfly lovers! Volunteer to assist refuge staff with capturing, tagging, and releasing monarch butterflies at Neal Smith National Wildlife Refuge on Saturday, September 16 from 8:30 am – 11:30 am. Tagging monarch butterflies enables scientists to track their migration. This information helps scientists to better understand how to help this declining butterfly species. In previous years, monarch butterflies tagged at Neal Smith National Wildlife Refuge were located on their wintering grounds in Mexico, identified by tag number.
