Jasper County Conservation Board will host an Older, Wiser, Livelier Seniors (OWLS) program on Wednesday, January 12 at the Jasper County Armory/Annex Building in Newton. The public is invited to come for 10:00 a.m. coffee and a program given by Brenda Smith, who works for the Iowa DNR and is also a licensed falconer. Brenda will talk about how she and her husband Jeremy got started in falconry. They’ve successfully flown three red-tail hawks in recent years, releasing the first two back to the wild. Currently they have one red-tail named Artemis who will be visiting the OWLS group.
The public is also welcome to join Brenda and Jeremy Smith again at Ashton Wildwood Park on Saturday, January 15 at 2:00pm to watch Artemis the red-tail in action. This free program will take place in the Wilcox Green area at Ashton Park.
