The Jasper County Board of Supervisors have unanimously approved the purchase of a 2022 4-wheel drive, heavy duty chassis Ambulance for the Sheriff Department’s ALS Program. American Rescue Place Act or so-called “ARPA” funds will be used to purchase the 354-thousand dollar ambulance from Arrow Ambulance of Rock Rapids Iowa. Sheriff John Halferty said the original thinking was an ambulance would be purchased a couple of years down the road. He put 400-thousand dollars in next year’s budget for that. He started out the reasoning for buying this ambulance now with this.

The Sheriff then explained how this ambulance can be used now.

Halferty mentioned the Ambulance will probably be stored at Iowa Speedway.

According to Halferty. If the County ordered a new ambulance today, it would take 24 to 30 months for it to be delivered. If ordered a couple of years from now…he believes the wait for delivery could even be longer. The Sheriff added the base price for a new ambulance is currently about 350-thousand dollars. He happened to come across this unit, which he feels is a great fit for the  ALS Program.

All three Supervisors strongly agreed with the ambulance purchase yesterday (Tuesday). The 2022 Ambulance will be delivered in a few weeks.
