Baxter Man Gets Jail Time for 2nd Offense OWI

A 37 year old Baxter man is to report to jail December 3rd after pleading guilty to 2nd Offense OWI. Matthew Michael Oharra has been given a 7-day sentence, with another 173 days in jail suspended. Court documents state his sentence also includes a 1-thousand 875-dollar fine, 2 years of probation, completing the DMAAC Driving Under the Influence class, and a substance abuse evaluation and treatment. Oharra was arrested shortly after 11p.m. May 22nd on the northwest edge of Baxter. He reportedly ran a stop sign and stopped in the middle of the road on Northwest Avenue. The arresting officer said Oharra admitted drinking, and had blood shot eyes and slurred speech, and refused a breathalyzer test. His prior OWI conviction was in Polk County in October 2014.
