Bus Driver Shortage in Newton School District Slowly Improving According to Transportation Supervisor

Progress is being made to address the shortage of drivers for school buses and suburbans in the Newton School District. That was the underlying message of the update school district Transportation Supervisor David Kretz provided to the school Board last night.

Kretz notes a number of teachers and administrators have stepped up and obtained licenses to drive buses. He says they are doing a great job helping out and covering routes. He added he has a couple of interviews this week with potential drivers, and hopefully at least one can be hired.

During last night’s meeting the school board did formally approve the hiring of three substitute drivers, including Berg Middle School Industrial Technology Teacher Jarret Horn.
