A man who’s very familiar with the job was chosen last (Tuesday) night to fill the vacancy for Mayor in Prairie City.

That’s Prairie City City Councilwoman Deb Townsend. She has been serving as Mayor Pro Tem since former Mayor Eric Imerman, who took office in January,  resigned November 9th. During a special City Council meeting last night, Townsend and the 4 other current City Council members voted confidentially to appoint a new Mayor.

Alleger was Prairie City’s Mayor for 8 years and said he wanted to help out the City Council and the community. He did not run for re-election last year. He’s a real estate appraiser who works from home.

Alleger were be sworn in at the next regular Prairie City City Council meeting December 14th. The only other person who sought the appointment as Mayor was Joel Overton. Overton said he  is a 1999 PCM graduate who was born and raised in Monroe. He’s a single Dad with two sons who are 12 and 15. He moved back to Iowa and Prairie City last June and works full-time as a safety coordinator at Windsor Windows and Doors in Norwalk.
