Initial tasks associated with developing the design for the new clubhouse at Newton’s Westwood Golf Course can now begin, as the Newton City Council last (Monday) night approved a Design Services Agreement for the project. The 220-thousand 535-dollar contract with ETHOS Design Group Incorporated of Ankeny will cover schematic design…design development…cost estimates…construction plans and documents…bidding assistance…and construction oversight. The total estimated cost of the new clubhouse is 1-million 170-thousand dollars. City Administrator Matt Muckler says the Design Services Agreement is just under 19-percent of that, which is in-line with the City Staff’s estimate and normal industry standards. The new clubhouse will be built where the current one sits. It will include an indoor lounge, Pro Shop, a Food Service/Bar area, Office, restrooms, and storage. An Outdoor Plaza with open air outdoor shelter to cover 150 people is also part of the project. Construction is estimated to take 10 months, with a projected start next August and project completion in May 2024.
