Food Service Department for Newton Schools Providing Many Extras This Week

The Newton School District is in the 2nd month of a program that’s giving healthy snacks to all elementary students. Since September 7th the USDA Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program has provided the money for the additional fruits and vegetables to be served to kids in school. Cristy Croson is the Food Service Supervisor for the Newton School District. She says the District received an additional 3-thousand dollar grant from the program last month, to give the students a larger portion of snacks.

Croson notes this week is National School Lunch Week. To celebrate….the Big Red Cardinal is visiting all the elementary schools and the middle school this week.

This morning….Croson says Newton’s students will enjoy food connected to Local Iowa Food Day.

Croson passed all this information along to members of the Newton School Board during their board meeting last Monday night.
