The new air conditioning for the main gymnasium at Newton High School is up and running. The school board this week formally declared the project completed. Cunningham Incorporated of Oskaloosa won the contract to do the duct work and install the mechanical equipment. Their low bid was 365-thousand 290-dollars. But they actually completed the work for a little less than that according to Rachelle Hines with the school district’s architectural firm FRK Architects and Engineers of West Des Moines.
The School board this week approved the last payment to Cunningham Incorporated of just over 18-thousand dollars. The cost of the actual air conditioning equipment was another 191-thousand 963-dollars. With professional fees and other miscellaneous expenses, the total cost to air condition the Newton High School gym was around 630-thousand dollars.
