Newton Man Gets Probation For Receiving Mailed Packages Containing Marijuana

A Newton man who received over 1-thousand 500 grams of marijuana through the mail earlier this year has been given two years of probation and must pay 2-thousand 50-dollars in civil penalties.32 year old Marcus Akeem Muhammad pleaded guilty to Possessing Marijuana with Intent to Deliver and Failure to Have a Drug Tax Stamp. He was arrested April 13th. According to Newton Police, the postal inspector notified them of two suspicious packages addressed to “Mrs.  Muhammad” at home in the 700-block of East 13th Street North. Inside the packages, court papers state a total of 1-thousand 511 grams of marijuana was found in multiple vacuum sealed baggies. Police say Marcus Muhammad took responsibility for the marijuana, and had receipts for the packages on his phone.
