This week the Newton City Council authorized a 22-thousand 881-dollar payment to Jasper County Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency. The payment amount is based on census data, and is for the homeland security and emergency management services the Agency provides to the city. The re-imbursement is calculated on a per capita rate of 1-dollar 50-cents per resident. That rate was established by the Jasper County Emergency Management Commission. Newton City Officials say the rate has remained unchanged since 2007. But it will be adjusted after the 2020 census is finished.
