The Newton School District is now releasing information about how many students and staff are quarantined because of COVID-19. Superintendent Tom Messenger told the school board last (Monday) night the information for both students and staff is broken down into 3 categories.
The information is available on a dashboard on the Newton School District’s Return to Learn Google site. Messinger says the numbers will be updated at the end of each school day. Currently the Newton School District has one student isolated due to a positive COVID-19 test, 20 students isolated due to exposure, and 16 students quarantined awaiting the results of a COVID-19 test. One staff member is isolated because of exposure. Two are quarantined pending test results. Messinger says until a week and a half ago, school districts were not allowed to release this type of information due to confidentiality laws. But that guidance changed.
The Newton Superintendent notes it’s the local health department that issues the COVID-19 quarantines.
