The City of Newton’s July 4th Fireworks Display next year will be done by the same Yarmouth Iowa business that’s been doing it the last several years. This week the City Council unanimously accepted the 2023 Fireworks Show proposal from J & M Displays. A 3 year agreement with the City and J & M ended last year. City staff sought proposals from several other businesses in the midwest. But J & M was the only one who submitted a proposal. City Staff says two other providers inquired about doing the display. However…they determined it wasn’t worth traveling to Newton for the size of show the City puts on. J & M’s 2023 proposal includes an 8-percent product discount for early payment and a 15-percent discount through their new loyalty program. According to City Administrator Matt Muckler…for the 15-thousand dollars the City plans to spend, next year’s July 4th Fireworks show will have 22-percent more product shot, for a 16-percent increase in price. This past year’s display cost 12-thousand dollars.
