Smoke from the Canadian wildfires caused Air Quality concerns early this morning. The Iowa D-N-R said the Air Quality Index for Jasper County during the early morning hours was considered “unhealthy for sensitive groups”. In the Des Moines metro…it was labeled “unhealthy,”. Meteorologist Andrew Ansorge, at the National Weather Service, explains what happened.

As the morning progressed, the warmer temperatures allowed the smoke to dissipate.

Health officials say the poor air quality impacts individuals with certain conditions that may restrict breathing, including asthma. They should avoid being outside and any strenuous activities when the air quality is bad.
