The Newton Cardinals defeated Ottumwa 42-21 in the first game this season at the newly-turfed H.A. Lynn Stadium. The Cardinals fell behind 7-0, early…but an 82-yard run by Canaan Terpstra after a fumble recovery tied the game. The Cardinals rushed for 354 yards total. Cody Satterfield had 108 yards on the ground with just 4 carries for Newton. Dylan Farver had a pair of touchdown runs for the Cardinals, while Jarett Antle added a 16-yard touchdown run and William Cheng scampered 23 yards for a score. Also, quarterback Kyle Long tossed a 6-yard TD pass to Julian Hotchkin. Newton improved to 2-1 on the season and will face Waterloo East next Friday night; Homecoming for the Cardinals.
