A 29 year old Newton woman arrested for having controlled substances in her bedroom in August of last year is finishing up a 5-day jail sentence. 29 year old Mareah Cornejo pleaded guilty to possession of methamphetamine, while additional charges of possessing marijuana and prescription drugs without a prescription were dismissed. Her plea agreement was the result of a search warrant executed at her home in the 900-block of North 9th Avenue East the night of August 28th 2018. Court records show members of the Mid-Iowa Narcotics Enforcement Task Force found a small baggie of meth, a small baggie of marijuana, and 11 pills of prescription medication in Cornejo’s bedroom. In addition to the jail time, which she began serving this past Thursday, Cornejo has been fined 315-dollars and must pay a  125-dollar surcharge.
