St. Stephens Church Anniversary

St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Newton is celebrating the 150th Anniversary of its building at the corner of W. 4th Street and 3rd Avenue.  The first services there were held on April 6, 1874; it has been in continuous use since that date.  It holds the record for the longest unbreakable service as a congregation in Newton.  The congregation itself was organized in 1868.  Bishop Betsey Monnot, the 10th bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Iowa, will be in Newton on April 7th to celebrate the day with the membership.  Services are at 10:00 a. m., and the public is invited to be present.
