Local Gas Prices Lower Than State Average and Last Year

Gas prices are lower this Christmas than they were a year ago according to Triple-A. This (Monday) morning…the website “Gas Buddy” had the price of gas at Casey’s in Prairie City at 2-dollars 54-cents per gallon. Murphy USA by the Newton Wal-Mart was listed at 2-dollars 58-cents a gallon, with all the Casey’s stores in Newton at $2.59. Those prices are well below the statewide average of 2-dollars 82 cents a gallon according to Triple-A Iowa spokesman Brian Ortner. He also notes they are considerably lower than last year.

Ortner says prices could go even lower.

The Triple-A spokesman points to lower oil costs as the reason for the falling gas prices.

Triple-A says most Iowa travelers during Christmas and New Year’s get to and from their destinations by driving themselves.
