Newton Man Wanted For September Home Burglary Now in Custody

A 34 year old Newton man accused of entering a house in northeast Newton overnight September 10th and stealing cash while the male victim was home, was arrested on an warrant this past weekend. Newton Police say Derrick Shaver has been identified as the person in the residence via an in-home security camera. He’s charged with 2nd Degree Burglary and 3rd Degree Burglary to a vehicle. According to the arrest report…Shaver entered the house in the 400-block of East 16th street North through the back sliding door, and then walked into the garage. There he allegedly stole 80 to 120-dollars cash from the victim’s wallet…which was in a vehicle. The security video then allegedly shows Shaver coming back into the house and searching a desk. The police claim he stole about 350-dollars and a handmade wooden bowl, before leaving the house. .
