A housing subdivision in northeast Newton is going to be expanding by 38 lots. City Council members unanimously decided last (Monday) night to approve the low bid on constructing the 2nd phase of the Arbor Estates Subdivision.

That’s Newton Housing Development Corporation Director Bruce Showalter. The City received 10 bids. The lowest, from McAnich Corporation of Des Moines, was accepted for 2-million 689-thousand 109-dollars.

Showalter says the extension of East 23rd Street North under this project, to North 11th Avenue East, will address some traffic concerns.

The subdivision expansion also involves earthwork, sanitary and storm sewer installation, construction of water mains, erosion control, and seeding.
