Sentenced Imposed in Newton Drug & Gun Recovery Case

A 38 year old Newton man has been sentenced on marijuana and gun charges following a search of his home back in February. Kevin Wayne Hood has been placed on Probation for 3 years and fined 1-thousand 25-dollars for Control of a Firearm by a Domestic Abuse Offender. Court Documents also show he’s been given a suspended 1 year prison term and 430-dollar fine for 2nd Offense Possession of Marijuana. Both charges are connected to a search warrant carried out February 27th at his residence in the 300-block of North 19th Avenue West…by members of the Mid-Iowa Narcotics Enforcement Task Force. Officers reportedly recovered a small amount of marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and two guns; a 20-gauge shotgun and a 9 mm handgun. Three other gun related charges against Hood were dismissed, along with another drug charge. His sentence from District Associate Judge Charles Sinnard also includes an order to undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment.
